02.01.05 Game Report vs. Diablos
(by Steve Rowe)
Last night the Gators learned a lesson the hard way, falling 8-1 to last session's champs the Diablos. Organization is one of the most important assets any team can have. When you don't have it, you might be able to play a competitive game against your league's bottom feeders, but when you play the champs you better have all your ducks in a row. Defenseman Will Frontiero was unable to make the game due to his workload, Forward Chris Conley was a game time no-show no call, and defenseman Brian Bannon set the record for shortest stint as a Gator by quitting after filling out half of his registration form. Read that again, it really happened. So the Gators brought a butter knife to a gunfight last night and started the game once again with 2 forwards playing defense and only 2 forward lines. The Diablos jumped on them early & often and gained a 3-0 lead before Brian Drake jumped on a rebound in the slot and scored the Gators only goal to make it 3-1 towards the end of the first period. After that the Gators generated very little offensive pressure despite numerous power play opportunities and it seemed like none of the bounces were going in their favor. This was one we'd all like to quickly forget and we definitely
should. Forget the game and the score, but remember the lessons we learned
in the loss and we'll have a better game against them next time. Tonight's 3 Stars: 1. Jeremy Christiansten - For the 2nd game in a row this natural forward took one for the team and filled in on defense for guys that didn't show up. 2. John Davie - Also a forward playing D for guys that didn't show. We appreciate it. 3. Brian Drake - Helped us avoid a shutout tonight. |
