02.15.05 Game Report vs Stooges
Still working on getting the roster organized in week 4 of the Tuesday night winter season, the Gators found themselves again missing a few players in a matchup with the Stooges. Despite several e-mails to the league commissioner asking if our roster was all set, we were notified just prior to the game that Jeremy Christiansen would not be allowed to play. He will be back next week. Chris Conley was AGAIN a no call no show, apparently he was sick last night. Renee Hiltz wasn't in the bar, but didn't show for last night's game either. This Gators team needs a lot more communication if we're going to make it through this season and build the team into something that can last for years instead of just disband and rebuild again after 12 games. Tom Savage got things started for the Gators when he was left wide open at the top of the circle and ripped a wrister just under the crossbar. Not long after that, Brian Drake scored on a breakaway to make it 2-0. The Stooges have improved a bit and they always skate like they want it and never give up. They were able to tie the score at 2 before Drake ripped a slap shot from just inside the blueline to the top shelf to give the Gators a 3-2 advantage. Late in the 2nd, Steve Rowe kicked a rebound on to his stickblade and tipped it in for a 4-2 Gator lead. Drake completed the hat trick with another breakaway goal and Mike Deer had a nice one as well to cap it off at 6-2. Jerry Suplicki had another outstanding game in net after he settled in after the Stooges 2nd goal which was a strange deflection off Jerry's stick and in. Brian Pasono and John Davie did a nice job splitting the duties of 3rd defenseman last night. With any luck, the Gators will sign a full time defenseman before next week's game. Scouts and team officials are currently making offers. Gold stars all around for the Gators squad last night. From the "Scores from around the league" department last night the Diablos were thrashed by the Gators next opponent, Team Log, by a score of 11-2. Everyone is going to need to pick it up a notch if we're going to get a "W" next week. In other news, Stooges defenseman Mark Cornell was in stable
condition, and by stable I mean he had a napkin in one hand dabbing blood
from his chin and a beer in the other up at the ESL bar. He was cut during
the game inadvertently by a high stick from Tom Savage. Next time you
see Mark's deformed chin make a mental note to yourself that "this
is why you go get stitches instead of going directly to the bar"
after someone opens up a hole in your face. Tonight's 3 Stars 1. Brian Drake - Had a Hat Trick and an assist while sitting on the bench. 2. Mike Deer - Had a goal and a beauty of a pass on one of Drake's breakaway goals...plus he flattened one of the Stooges with like 6 seconds remaining in the game. 3. Jerry Suplicki - Settled in nicely after allowing 2 goals
early. |
