02.22.05 Game Report vs Team Log

It's too bad the shot clock at ESL was broken last night because the goose egg posted by the Gators in their 2-0 loss to Team Log certainly doesn't say anything for the effort put forth by all players in a hard fought battle.

Fighting for a piece of 1st place in the Tuesday league, the Gators weren't really sure what to expect from this new team, Team Log who had throttled the Diablos 11-2 last week. Having lost themselves 8-1 to the Diablos, the Gators knew they had their work cut out for them last night.

Missing 2 key forwards once again, the Gators still proved a worthy adversary for the undefeated Team Log. Both teams had their opportunities in the 1st period and both were bailed out by their goaltenders leading to a 0-0 tie after the first period.

Midway through the 2nd period a shot from the point ricocheted off a stick and a rebound went right to Tucker Jordan who won a wrestling match with Tom Savage and found a way to sneak one through Jerry Suplicki's pads for the 1-0 lead for Team Log.

Jerry and the Gator defense did a great job holding Team Log to only 1 goal and despite an avalanche of shots on TL goalie Tim Norris, the Gator forwards failed to light the lamp.

After pulling Jerry in favor of an extra skater with 45 seconds left, the Gators got a few last chances but still couldn't beat Norris. Team Log had a 2 on 1 against the empty net with about 8 seconds left on the clock and got the clincher. Final score 2-0 Team Log.

Despite the loss, the Gators made a good showing upstairs at the ESL bar and enjoyed watching Woody's play the Diablos over a few pitchers of Labatt Blue. It's starting to feel like we're a team boys...let's keep it going!

Tonight's 3 Stars:

1. Jerry Suplicki - Dealt with the fabled Mark Loj slap shot all night and gave the Gators a chance to win only allowing 1 goal to the most productive offense in the league thus far.

2. Tom Savage - Played stellar defense and almost killed a guy with a slap shot late in the 3rd.

3. Renee Hiltz - Played forward for the 1st time EVER and did a great job on both sides of the ice.

Scoring:

We didn't. That's good news for Chris Conley and Jeremy Christiansen who didn't fall any farther behind in the scoring race.
