04.19.05 Game Report vs Team Log
After a slow start the Gators climbed out of a 6-1 hole to tie the game at 8 in the third against 1st place Team Log. Each team added a goal before regulation expired with the score at 9 a piece. Team Log escaped with a victory when they cashed in a rebound about halfway through the overtime period ending the Gators bid for a comeback win. TL's bench was packed with new faces since the last time the Gators played them. That game was a 2-0 loss for the Gators who couldn't put one past TL goalie Tim Norris. Norris and other TL players were missing last night, out on spring break so this was a good opportunity for the Gators to pull an upset. Despite fielding a depleted squad, Team Log maintained puck possession for most of the 1st and 2nd periods and it wasn't until the 3rd that the Gators began to stage a comeback. Brian Mellor got it started with a quick goal on a turnaround shot of a rebound that skipped out into the slot. That made it 8-6. Rowe one-timed a pass from Pat to pull the Gators within one and then Brian Drake tied it on a controversial goal which the ref ruled had crossed the line. Seconds after the Gators tied the game, Team Log came roaring back and tied it on an individual effort by one of their defenseman who actually lost the puck before it slid over the goalline. Ouch! The Gators struck back though, with Jeremy Christiansten tying the score yet again and then owning the play all the way to the buzzer. This one could easily have ended in regulation in favor of the Gators but they just couldn't get that 10th goal. Tonight's 3 Stars 1. Brian Mellor - hat trick 2. Jeremy Christiansten - 2 goals 3. Jerry Suplicki - gave us a chance |
