09.14.05 Gators Game Report vs
The Wreckers
Lakeshore Hockey Arena rolled out the red carpet last night for the Fall 2005 Wednesday night version of Gators Hockey. From the minute we walked through the doors of the rink until we left the bar after the game we were rewarded time and again for our decision to move the team from ESL Sportscentre. Most if not all of us who have played at ESL felt like Randall from Clerks when he walks in to Big Choice Video last night when we got to the rink. Each player paid in full earned a chance to spin a prize wheel which included a chance to win half off your league fee. In addition to that, the rink provided a towel, new socks, AND a jersey. ESL take note...this might be a good way to form a league with more than 4-6 teams. This Lakeshore league has 12 teams. You can tell that Lakeshore is run by someone who cares about his customers, puts some thought into running his adult leagues and actually has an interest in winning repeat business. On the ice we were required to sign in (to discourage any illegal subs), and the referees actually got the game started on time without running any game time off the clock. Once we got going the referees could actually skate and were very personable with the players. Heck it even looked like they might be having fun (gasp!) doing their jobs. After the game the rink bar gave us a free pizza after we bought 3 pitchers which we would have done anyway. About the only thing this rink didn't do for us was give us rides home, walk our dogs, and tuck us in to bed. Jimmy Suplicki is currently scouring the papers for a rink in Rochester that offers that deal. On to the game...the Gators came out with guns blazing, grabbing a quick 2-0 lead on goals by John Davie and Steve Rowe. Jim Suplicki tacked on another on a quick shot that got deflected and surprised the Wreckers goalie. This one was never in doubt as Jerry Suplicki stood tall in net and the Gators just kept adding to their lead. John Davie got his 2nd of the night when he tucked a wrister from the point just under the crossbar. Chris Huber scored his 1st goal ever (last night was his first organized game) when he banged home a rebound that was flopping around in the crease like a dead fish. Rowe and Suplicki tacked on insurance goals and the Gators Wrecked the Wreckers 8-4. Scoring Davie from Magin Rowe from Kochersberger and Huber Suplicki from Ryan Davie from Warner and Rowe Huber from Kochersberger and Davidson Ryan from Warner Suplicki from Rowe Rowe from Davidson Tonight's 3 Stars NOTE FROM THE WEBMASTER: Steve Rowe wrote up this report and as usual, it kicks ass. Unfortunately, because he is a very humble man, he did not put himself on the Tonight's 3 Stars list...which is insane. Steve had 4 points last night (2 goals and 2 helpers) PLUS had 4 classic quotes (see the quote page)...making him first star of the game. Nice game Stevie! Tonight's 4 Stars 1. Steve Rowe - 4 points on the night (2 goals and 2 assists) and 4 quotes. 2. John Davie - Got 2 gritty goals when we needed 'em. 3. Frank Warner - Played a SOLID game on both ends of the ice...had more hustle than Cassidy (he's a hustla, homey) 4. Jim Suplicki - continued his hot streak with 2 tallies. |
