09.19.05 Gators Game Report vs 2 Left Feet

Monday Night Hockey last night featured the Gators vs 2 Left Feet. Much like the Summer edition of Gators Hockey, the Fall Gators dug themselves an early hole and headed to the third period trailing 4-1.

A combination of defensive lapses and lack of scoring punch held the Gators down in the first two periods. After last week's easy win, the Gators were having a tough time against 2 Left Feet on a Monday night, missing a few key forwards.

When the puck dropped to start the 3rd the Gators looked like Popeye after downing a can of spinach. They came out blazing as Jim Davidson laced a top shelf slapper and Chris Ryan sniped a low snap shot that beat 2LF's goalie fivehole to pull the Gators within a goal at 4-3. On the same shift, Steve Rowe deked a defender and fired a low wrister to tie the game at 4.

2 Left Feet showed surprising resilience after giving up a 3 goal lead in about a minute and a half and regained the lead on the next shift. Then the Gators got a power play chance, called a timeout, and the line of Ryan/Rowe & Huber was given 40 seconds to get the job done. They only needed 10 seconds as Ryan won the faceoff, then cashed in a rebound to tie the score again at 5.

Another defensive lapse left 2 Left Feet's best player wide open in the slot and with about a minute left on the clock he converted to give 2LF a 6-5 lead and they would hang on to beat the Gators and thwart a spirited comeback effort.
