10.19.05 Gators Game Report vs
The Buffaloes
After a tough loss last week on a Monday night with a short bench, the Gators got back on track last night with a 4-0 win against the Buffaloes. It was teamwork again that proved to be the recipe for success for the Gators as 4 different players provided the offense while Jerry Suplicki and the defense held the Buffaloes off the scoreboard. The teams spent the better part of the first period feeling each other out with neither posing much of a scoring threat. Mike Kochersberger chipped a pass that sent Steve Rowe on a breakaway and Rowe converted on the backhand after the Buffaloes goalie bit hard on a fake. Jim Davidson increased the Gators lead with a slap shot off the goalie's glove that found the twine. As the Gators pulled away newcomer Pat Dwyer got on the scoresheet when he took a quick shot on a breakaway that caught the Buffaloes goalie off guard again. Frank Warrener added the last insurance goal with a wrister from just inside the blueline that snuck under the crossbar. It took a while to complete this game as the 2nd and 3rd period saw both teams take their share of penalties. The Buffaloes have a lot to learn about what makes playing men's league hockey worth paying a $200 league fee. Work on your skating, passing, and shooting boys and girls instead of shooting your mouths off and trying to imitate crap you see on TV. Jerry Suplicki did an excellent job as he always does of erasing a few sloppy defensive mistakes with some key saves and he earned the elusive men's league shutout. Suplicki might have been nervous about earning the shutout in the last few minutes of this one but he was too busy laughing about Steve Rowe's botched breakaway attempt where he missed a wide open net. Scoring: Rowe from Kochersberger Davidson from Ryan Dwyer from Jim Suplicki Warner from Mancuso Tonight's 3 Stars: 1. Jerry Suplicki - A SHUTOUT!!! IN MEN'S LEAGUE!!!! (unheard of) 2. Jim Davidson - a goal and good D to preserve the shutout 3. Frank Warner - a goal and good D to preserve the shutout |
