10.26.05 Gators Game Report vs The Bruins

Last night the once again short-benched Gators took on a Bruins team that looked eerily similar to the old Skate Katz of the Thursday night league at Lakeshore. Loaded on offense compared to some of the teams we've seen in the Wednesday league, the Gators knew they were in for a tough battle with this squad.

The Gators would have dug themselves an early grave in this one were it not for the play of goaltender Jerry Suplicki. He obviously came to play tonight and showed up stonewalling the Bruins on chance after chance in the first. They were getting visibly frustrated they couldn't put one past Suplicki and he deserves a lot of credit for giving the Gators a chance to upset the potent Bruins.

Halfway through the 1st period Jim Davidson spotted a streaking Steve Rowe breaking through the neutral zone and threaded a perfect pass through 2 Bruin players. Rowe tried to split the D and fired a shot which their goalie stopped, but Rowe jumped on the rebound and deposited it in the back of the net with a turnaround wrist shot that caught the Bruins by surprise.

The Gators couldn't hold that slim lead for long as the Bruins were able to finally get one by Suplicki to tie it at 1. Then the two teams battled end to end, still tied at 1 until about midway through the third period. Jim Suplicki sent Rowe on a breakaway but one of the Bruins was able to catch up and Rowe didn't get a shot off. The Bruins seemed to feed off of this defensive play and quickly scored 2 huge goals. Later they would add another to salt this one away and down the Gators by a score of 4-1.

All in all it was a very hard fought game and well played by the Gators from top to bottom. There's no shame in giving your all and coming up short against a team with just a little more firepower.

(Writer's note: I'd like to personally apologize to Jeff Curtis and the rest of the team for taking WAY TOO LONG of a shift in the 3rd period. At the time I think I was caught up in the game and not thinking that what I was doing was hurting our team. I should have got off the ice. End of story. I am sorry and I will try not to do it again. If you see me do this again please call me off. Thanks for understanding. -#15 Rowe.)
