06.14.05 Game Report vs Team Log
Last night the Gators lost a tough game to the Spring champs of Tuesday nights at ESL, Team Log. It was a seesaw battle the entire way, with the Gators scoring and Team Log answering all the way to the buzzer at the end of the 3rd with the score tied at 5. Bryan Rowe chipped a pass to Billy Christman who rifled a low shot that found some daylight and the Gators took a 1-0 lead. After Team Log tied it, Jeremy Christensen won a faceoff and Brian Bannon ripped a slap shot from the point to make it 2-1. Team Log answered again, and in turn, the Gators fired back on a turnaround rebound shot from Christman. Again Team Log tied the score at 3, then they went ahead 4-3 on a controversial goal. Jerry Suplicki had the puck pinned to the post for what seemed like a half hour, but no whistle. A Team Log player was able to sneak in and jab it home to give TL a 4-3 advantage. Then Bryan Rowe banked one off the back boards and Steve Rowe one-timed it into a wide open net. 4-4. Tom Savage got the lead back for the Gators with a cannon of a slap shot from just inside the blueline. Late in the third, Dave Perkins was the victim of a pick by Team Log which left Mark Loj all alone to walk in and tie it. When questioned, the ref said "I'm not gonna call interference this late in a 1 goal game"...uhh...so when exactly would you call it then?? Team Log got the last laugh as one of the officials apparently thought that a puck sitting on the goal line was, in fact, a goal. Brutal. This gave Team Log the 6-5 overtime victory. These were just about the sorriest excuses for referees we've ever seen officiate a game. When the bad calls in a game stand out more than the goals do, that's a problem. The guys in stripes at ESL could learn a lot from referees at other rinks. Scoring 1. Billy Christman - 2 goals 2. Bryan Rowe - 2 assists 3. Brian Mellor - ALMOST scored like 6 times |
