Week 1 - 9.20.06 Gators vs Miano Insurance
The Gators started their season off with a fast-paced game against Miano Insurance Wednesday night. Defeating their opponents 6-4, the team incorporated both new and returning talent that night, foreshadowing another winning season. With fourteen men playing, the Gators kept up both on defense and offence all night, slowing down only in the third period.

Just over five minutes into the game, Miano Insurance scored their first goal on goalie Jerry Suplicki (35), and both sides had several close-calls until the Gators scored their first goal with 3:06 left in the period. Suplicki (35) passed the puck from the net to his brother Jim Suplicki (19), who set Brian Pasono (17) up for a nice goal on Miano Insurance's net. Less than two minutes later, Miano Insurance scored again however, leaving the Gators down 2-1 heading into the second period.

Bouncing right back at the start of the second, Dave Salafia (15) shot up the ice, passing to Pasono (17), who handed the puck over to Suplicki (19), tying the game. Barely giving Miano Insurance a chance to get the puck back, newcomer to the Gators, Steve Randall (10) stole the puck from his player, passing immediately to Brian Drake (18) up the ice for another goal. Even with two consecutive penalties called [first on Pasono (17), then on Salafia (15)], then second period was by far the most productive. With a little under three minutes left in the period, Pasono (17) outskated his player, passing to Salafia (15) for yet another goal. Seeming as if the period was over, the game slowed a little until Randall (10), almost out of nowhere, got in close to the net with just 41 seconds left on the clock, scoring the fifth goal of the game, with the Gators leading Miano Insurance 5-2.

Immediately at the start of the last period, the Gators scored yet again. Pasono (17) passed to Salafia (15) who slipped through defenders, dumping the puck to John Davie (76) for an unexpected goal that seemed to just coast its way in. Winding down late in the game, the Gators experienced a little fatigue, and let two more goals in, with just under five minutes left, but still came out on top in the end.

Fairly evenly matched as far as shooting overall, the Gators gave a little extra to pull out that win. With returning Gator Jeff Curtis (8), and newbies Doug Gardner (4), Jack Hibit (9), and Randall (10), accompanied by ten of the teammates from last year's winning team, the guys seem to have already found lines that work well together. Even in new uppers, goalie/new father Jerry Suplicki did a fine job in net, saving 25 of 29 shots on net. The Gators outshot Miano Insurance by just a few, but their superior accuracy is what won the game. Congratulations on your first win, guys!
