Week 3 -
10.04.06 Gators vs The Antiques
Although the game started off in The Gators' favor, The
Antiques ended up coming out the winners in this Wednesday's
game. Both sides struggled to keep control of the puck the
entire first period, resulting in only one goal scored all
period: The Gators first and only of the night. With little
over one minute in the first period, defenseman Frank Warner
(5) got hold of the puck, and passed to John Scully (32)
who made his way up the ice, finding Brian "Jerk of
the Week" Pasono (17) wide open for a nice shot on
net.
Little happened until about 3 minutes into the second period,
when The Antiques made their first goal, an accidental ricocheted
puck off of our own Jim Suplicki's (19) stick. Defense struggling
to keep up with The Antiques, another goal made it past
goal Jerry Suplicki (35) in the second period, leaving The
Gators down 2-1.
The third period proved to seal the deal for The Antiques.
With both teams skating hard and traveling back and forth
from net to net, it was hard to count, but The Antiques
managed fourteen shots on Suplicki (35) while The Gators
had a mere three opportunities to make up the points. The
Antiques were able to get one more shot in past Suplicki
(35) before The Gators decided to pull their goalie and
play with six men on the ice. With only 59 seconds left
in the last period, Chris Ryan (27) and Frank Warner (5)
rushed to get back and defend the net, but couldn't keep
out the last shot of the night. The Antiques closed the
game with a 4-1 lead, handing The Gators their first loss
of the season.
Obviously missing that night was Dave Salafia (15), known
for his speed and ability to open up ice for more passing
and shooting opportunities. Based on all three games thus
far, it seems that The Gators' lines are not as strong going
into the third period. Hopefully, the boys take this observation
as a cue to get a great a lead as possible in the first
two periods, and hold tight on defense as much as they can
for the remainder of the game. Excellent defending (again)
by Warner, Ryan, and Suplicki (19), and some tremendous
saves by Suplicki (35). Also on a positive note: there were
only four falls of the night: three of which from John Davie
(76), and one by Steve Randall (10). The loss this week
allowed the men an excuse to drink a little extra for Seth
Sealfon's (2) birthday afterward, making for a long night
of pictures and quotes all around. Better luck next week,
guys!
