Week 4 -
10.11.06 Gators vs Firemen
In what resulted in their second defeat of the season, the
Gators took on the Firemen in an early game Wednesday night,
and lost 3-2. The Firemen scored the first two goals of
the game in the first period within minutes of each other,
leaving the Gators feeling a little beaten. Then at the
start of the second period, the Firemen scored once again,
leaving the Gators down 3-0. Finally, at 5:02 in the second,
Brian Drake (18) passed up the ice to Dave Salafia (15)
who scored the Gators first goal of the night. Then again
just under one minute later, Drake got the puck from Frank
Warner (5), and scored, bringing the Gators back a little
at 2-3.
Unfortunately, the teamwork was just not there that night,
and the Gators weren't able to come back for the rest of
the game. While their second period was a huge improvement
with twenty two shots on net versus the Firemen's twelve,
the Gators' shots were not as well placed or thought-through
as was needed to win the game back.
With five men missing, Chris Ryan (27... 11?) missing his
jersey, and two penalties on Drake that night, it was a
tough game to win. So, what's the next best thing to winning?
Dozens of wings and beer in the bar afterward to get over
the hard loss, of course! The men ended the night on a high
note despite their loss, and plan to do better next game.
