Week 6 -
10.25.06 Gators vs 2 Left Feet
In a tough game this past Wednesday, the Gators took on
2 Left Feet, a team who came out on top last season, but
only a managed a tie this time around. Minutes into the
game, 2 Left Feet finally scored after hitting Jerry Suplicki
(35) with a number of ill-placed shots. No goals were scored
again until the last four minutes of the period, when 2
Left Feet slipped another one by with Gator Seth Sealfon
(2) in the box. Less than one minute later, at 3:02 in the
first period, Brian Pasono (17) got his stick on the puck,
and found Dave Salafia (15) up the ice ready for a shot.
Salafia's shot was deflected by the goalie, but luckily,
Steve Randall (10) was right behind to pick it up, putting
the Gators on the board, the score at 2-1 headed into the
second period.
Now with more even shooting statistics, the Gators and 2
Left Feet both scored one goal a piece in the second period:
2 Left Feet with 11:26 on the clock, and the Gators with
a mere 2:30 left. Still down, the Gators defense began to
pick up a little, and offensive players came back to help
out more, keeping 2 Left Feet at bay.
With a little over five minutes left in the game, the Gators
held together and tied the score up with Jeff Curtis' (8)
goal, assisted by brother Bryan Curtis (21), and Chris Ryan
(27). Again, with the hope of coming out victorious, despite
biased calls by the officials, and uneven lines, the Gators
scored again, seemingly to end the game on top with another
goal by Randall, assisted by Doug Gardner (4), and John
Davie (76). Unfortunately, the game didn't end in the Gators'
favor. With 2:56 left in the game, 2 Left Feet got by Gators'
defense and scored again, sending the game into overtime
at 4-4.
Again, shooting was fairly even in overtime, and the Gators
nearly took the win with one close shot, but play was stopped
seconds before the puck entered the net, and no goals were
scored for the rest of the night. Understandably a little
worked up over the outcome of the game so far, and oblivious
officials, Jim "Badass" Suplicki (19) was put
in the box for the remainder of the game, and then ejected
from the game entirely as the result of a terrible call
(and comment) made by one ref. A difficult night overall,
the Gators overcame plenty more than unfair supervision
to walk away with the tie. Halfway into the third period,
both goalies broke their sticks, and a time-out had to be
called. Down four men, the players took turns switching
positions throughout the night, keeping Pasono on defense
for a change, and Ryan up at center. Offense was hard to
come by, as the goalie for 2 Left Feet played a great low
game, so the Gators' defensive men had to step up, keeping
scoring to a minimum. They ended up doing a great job in
helping Suplicki with the 44 shots hit his way, and had
there been more opportunities to keep things organized and
fair, the Gators would have surely won. Better luck next
game boys!
