Week 7 - 11.01.06 Gators vs Westside Cycles
Despite missing key defensive player Jim Suplicki (19) for Wednesday night's game this past week, the Gators pulled out another win, this time over Westside Cycles. Team Green came out strong in the first period, scoring the first goal of the game on just their second attempt, with Brian Pasono's (17) shot, assisted by Dave Salafia (15) and Chris Ryan (27). Moments later, they scored again with nine minutes left on the clock on Ryan's shot assisted by Jeff Curitis (8). They concentrated the rest of the period on a strong defense, helping Jerry Suplicki (35) keep all goal attempts nearly all night, leaving the score at 2-0 going into the second.

Again, with Westside Cycles coming at them with dozens of shots, the Gators managed to hold the game in their favor. At 7:18 in the second period, Steve Randall (10) put the third Gator goal away on one of Jack Hibit's (9) many passes of the night. Facing off second later, Jeff Curtis won the puck for the Gators, getting it to brother Bryan Curtis (21), and over to Brian Drake (18) for the goal now with 7:07 left.

Closing in on a near shut-out, the Gators concentrated their efforts on defense, as Westside Cycles shot at every attempt. Suplicki (35) made some awesome saves, and kept the shots out until just over three minutes left in the game, when Westside Cycles slipped one in. Now with the score 4-1, the Gators lost player Doug Gardner (4) to a penalty with two minutes left. Then, at 1:53, on a power play, Westside Cycles scored the last goal of the night, ending the game in the Gators' favor: 4-2.

The night was uplifting overall. Scott Magin (3), unable to make many games thus far due to work conflicts, played a really great game on defense, skating very well, and making some hard hits on his players. Frank Warner (5), also did an exceptional job defending, stopping many of Westside Cycles' shots from making it near the net. Jeff Curtis showed his tougher side on the ice, knocking a player's helmet off in a battle for the puck up against the glass, and had some great opportunities for scoring. Again, Steve Randall, did a nice job on both defense and offense, making sure to get back to the puck each time Westside Cycles brought it back down to the Gators' goal. The Tan-bandit, Dave Salafia, had a very nice two-way game, moving across the ice from end to end with ease, giving his players a hard time keeping up. Helping out a little on defense and sticking to his normal position at center, Brian Pasono spent the night making some great plays and passes after his game-starting goal. Last, but not least, goalie Jerry Suplicki made some fantastic saves in the net. Westside Cycles outshot Team Green by fourteen, but you wouldn't think it, to see the ease with which Suplicki defended his territory throughout the game. Great job everyone!
