01.09.06 Game Report vs The Avalanche

In what appeared to be a hard-nosed game of hockey Wednesday night the Gators grabbed their second victory of the season.
Coming into this game the Gators knew that the Avalanche would not be a push over team like they played last week. With the return of Greg Williams, John Davie, John Scully and the signing of Seth Sealafont, the Gators were ready to take on anyone; even if it was a team that was able to nudge into the top bracket last session.
The first period really showed what both teams were made of and with some jazzy goal playing; the Gators were able to steal the lead 2-1. The second period was much like the first back and forth hockey with both teams putting their all into. With some nifty passing the number two line was able to once again put one past the avalanche goalie. The defense and Jerry put together another spectacular period. With the new combinations of Jim and Seth along with Greg and Frank the defense was as solid as can be.
With the beginning of the third period came along another second line goal. Man were they on fire out there. It was as if the Avalanche were down a player every time we got it into their zone. Pass after pass, and then shot after shot, the Avalanche goalie had all he could handle. It was the Avalanche that struck next. After a small break down in our own zone, the Avalanche were able to strike the back of the net.
What happened next is what dreams are made of. Brian, Brian, and Dave took to the ice with fire in their eyes. No way were they going to allow the Avalanche to get away with scoring a second goal. With that thought in their heads, they blew by the defense once again and scored 2 more goals. I think at one point I was spinning in circles watching them.
The defense stepped up as well and frustrated the Avalanche over and over again. So much so the frustration manifested itself into tantrums. Both teams played well and were exhausted by the end of the game. It was a hard fought battle with the Gators prevailing once again. 7 - 2 win.
