04.05.06 Semi-finals - Game Report
vs The Antiques
In the first round of playoffs, the Gators took to the ice against The Antiques and came out on the winning end. Without any goals scored, the Gators showed a little struggle, and suddenly, the first Antique goal was put in the net halfway through the period. The remainder of the period was fruitless for both sides, and the men headed into the second period with The Antiques ahead 1-0. Then, barely three minutes into the second period, a quick play was made in front of the net: John Davie (76) passed to newcomer Rob Strelick (10), who got the puck to Brian Drake (18), putting the puck past The Antique's goalie. Just over one minute later, The Antiques came back and put another one by Jerry Suplicki (35); but they weren't ahead for long. Strelick stole the puck back at 8:43 in the second and passed it down the ice to Drake who scored all the way back from the blue line! With a little boost of morale from his charming girlfriend waving signs at him in the stands, Brian Pasono (17) got back on the ice to passed the puck over to Dave Salafia who scored the third goal at 6:25. The third period allowed one goal for each team: The Antiques got theirs in with a poorly aimed shot that somehow snuck past Suplicki (35). Soon after, however, the Gators' Strelick nabbed the puck, passed to Drake who gave it to Davie, and scored the game-winning goal minutes before the end of the night. The only thug in the box that night was Man-Eater Scott Magin (3) who REALLY should go to anger management at the close of the season. Seriously though, there wasn't much that was called, and I don't know how they could ever think "Scottie" (as Jerry and Jim's dad calls him) could ever do anything but high-five his player. Excellent defense was contributed to by Frank Warner and Jim Suplicki, as always. Great game! 4-3 win. Brian Drake - 2 goals, 1 assist John Davie - 1 goal, 1 assist Dave Salafia - 1 goal Rob Strelick - 3 assists Brian Pasono - 1 assist Scott Magin - 1 penalty Jerry Suplicki - 17 saves??
