04.26.06 Finals - Game 2 (best
of 3) - Game Report vs The Anchor Inn
Gators, 6-3. The Gators played a tough game against Anchor Inn last night, and came out on top. With many shots on goal, the Gators couldn't get anything past the opposing goalie until about eight minutes into the first period. Brian Drake (18) passed to Brian Pasono (17) who put it right in front of Dave Salafia (15), scoring the goal. Unfortunately, Anchor Inn came right back less than two minutes later with their own first goal on Jerry Suplicki (35), after bombarding the net with shots the whole period, and then again minutes later for their second goal. The second period was much more productive. Out of nowhere, Frank Warner (5) managed to steal the puck and slip it into the net just four minutes into the period for the second goal. Drake put the third goal in the net, immediately off the face-off after Warner's goal just ten seconds earlier, putting the Gators up 3-2. He quickly regained composure and immediately went for another shot, assisted by Pasono and Salafia, and scored again. FINALLY making a reappearance on the scoreboard late in the period was Pasono, scoring the fifth goal of the game, bringing the Gators to a nice 5-2 lead. The entire second period, defensive players came back quicker, and offensive players like Drake, Salafia, and John Davie (76), did their best to help out as Anchor Inn struggled to attack the net and regain control of the puck. An injury to Suplicki (35) halfway through the period made the Gators come together that much more, allowing the men to out-shoot Anchor Inn. Always a key player on defense, Warner helped the offense immensely by evening the score in the second period, and Chris Ryan (27), with a fan club cheering him on in the stands, skated hard and kept his stick down, blocking as many shots in Suplicki's direction as possible. Coming in late, Bryan Hapeman (3...but with blue pants), a returning Gator, helped the defense hold the score, and kept the puck away from Suplicki's net almost all period. Five minutes into the third period, Drake got his hat-trick and scored on Warner and Salafia's assists. The opposition managed to score a wild shot on net with about six minutes left in the game and a crowd of men in front of the net, but luckily, it was their last goal of the night. Keeping Anchor Inn working for the puck, Scott Magin (3), Jim Suplicki (19), John Scully/Scuttles (32), and Bryan Curtis (21) - with little voices in the stands urging him to "Go, Daddy!" "Go, Uncle Bryan!"- all did a great job of dumping the puck and clearing it from the Gators' zone for the rest of the game. Anchor Inn outshot the Gators overall, with 33 shots on goal, but the Gators definitely out-played them. Scoring Brian Drake - 3 goals, 1 assist Dave Salafia - 1 goal, 2 assists Brian Pasono - 1 goal, 2 assists Frank Warner - 1 goal, 1 assist Penalties John Davie - 1 penalty Jerry Suplicki - 33 saves
