Week 2 -
09.26.07 Gators vs Westside Cycles
After a week off, the Gators played West Side Cycles
in their second game of the season, and were unfortunately
met with a loss of 4-3 by the end of the night. West Side
Cycles started the game off with a goal four minutes into
play, and fought to keep the score at 1-0 up until the
last minute of the period. With just 58 seconds left,
Brian Pasono (17) scored, assisted by Mark Schirmer (11)
and Alé Mendoza (4), evening things out until the
next Gator goal, again, at the very end of a period. Steve
Randall (10) made his shot with minutes left in the second
period with help from Frank Warner (5) and Dave Varecka
(18).
The third period began with an almost immediate power
play goal for West Side Cycles. It was quickly answered
with Pasono's second goal of the night, scored just seconds
later. The Gators' scoring stopped there, however, and
West Side Cycles went on to score two more times, ending
the game at 4-3.
Shots on goal were rough: West Side Cycles had over
40 shots on goalie Jerry Suplicki (35), and the Gators
came back with barely 25. Warner (5) and Schirm (11) both
had penalties over the course of the night, but remained
integral to the Gators' defense. The Gators played a solid
game, but ultimately gave in to West Side Cycles', and
took their loss in stride.
