Week 7 -
10.24.07 Gators vs Beavers
With nearly every Gator in attendance, the team showed
their skill against the Screamin' Beavers last week, winning
4-3 at the end of the night. Shooting remained even until
the last period of the game, and the Beavers put up a
surprisingly good fight for the win.
As in the majority of their games this season thus far,
the Gators began goal scoring. Dave Salafia (15) put the
first and only goal in the net all first period. At the
start of the second period, the Beavers got one by goalie
Jerry Suplicki (35), and started off on the penalties
soon after.
The third period saw the most action, however. Again,
the Beavers scored on Suplicki (35), but were soon met
with Gator offense just under one minute later, as Dave
Salafia scored his second of three goals, assisted by
Brian Pasono (17), and Mark Kretschmann (7). The Beavers
slipped their last goal in shortly after, and the Gators
lost two players to penalties immediately following the
shot. Now down 3-2, and playing 3 vs. 5 with two men in
the box, the unthinkable happened. A familiar tan blur
streaked across the ice with a pass from Kretschmann (7),
and Salafia (15) all at once had his hat-trick, and the
cheers of his fellow Gators. Tied with two minutes left
in the game, Seth Sealfon (2) and Varecka (18) headed
up the ice with help from Alé Mendozza (4) and
Steve Randall (10), and put in the game-winning goal
together. :)
Penalties of the night included (but are not limited
to
because I drank a ton that night and got all
worked up at the game
) Sealfon (2), Mendoza, Varecka
(18), and Pasono (17). Suplicki (35) had (about) 41 saves
for the night, and, according to Mr. S, Brian had "one
too many dipsy doodles." Great come-back, guys!
