Week 2 -
01.17.07 Gators vs Anchor Inn
In their second game of the season, the Gators took on Anchor
Inn players in a grueling matchup. Although they began the
game missing five of their regular players, the Gators started
off strong. At the start of the first period, Anchor Inn
scored the first goal. With four minutes left in the period,
the Gators came back with one of their own with a shot by
Brian Pasono (17), assisted by the quick passes of the entire
line: Brian Drake (18), Dave Salfia (15), Mark Schirmer
(11), and Chris Ryan (27). Then again, just twelve seconds
before the end of the period, Bryan Curtis (21) scored the
second Gator goal, assisted by Jack Hibit (9) and Steve
Randall (10). The second period, unfortunately, was not
as rewarding for the Gators. Anchor Inn came back with three
more goals by the end of the second period, bringing the
score to 4-2.
By the third period, feeling somewhat beaten despite their
efforts, the Gators managed to score two more goals: one,
by newcomer Mark Schirmer (11)'s shot assisted by Hibit
and Randall. The last Gator goal was scored by Pasono, helped
by Seth Sealfon (2) Salafia, and Shirmer.
With their regular goalie out on a knee injury, Jim Suplicki
(19) filled in, making over 35 saves throughout the night.
Surprisingly, the penalties were at a minimum for the night,
with only one on Ryan, and the other on Drake, who was later
ejected from the game in the last minutes of play. Overall,
it was a learning game, allowing the Gators to gauge their
skill against their former rivals, and hopefully work out
more strategy for future encounters with similar teams.
